The Zoo at Avatar Island

(148: -25) : Journey South of Avatar Island and you're going to find a Zoo. Yes, a zoo. Avatar Island definitely lives up to its name as a place where you will find some creativity beyond any other place on the Planet of Cubes.

I first came across what I can only assume to be a Leopard or Cheetah, which made me venture further into this zoo area. Later I found a horse, what appeared to be a Panther, a kangaroo, a camel and finally a Pegasus, because you can't build animals without building a Pegasus (lol). And while I'm sure there were far more animals out there on the farm, I want to leave some animals for users to find on their own. However, these were my top finds of the day. There are many other creations in this area. I'm not sure if someone created it, or if the systems spawned these creatures. One thing is for sure, they're a definite attraction for the Planet of Cubes community.

Planet of Cubes locations: The tunnels of Dubai

minecraft planet of cubes online, games planet of cubes minecraft, planet of cubes
Plan a trip to Dubai and you're bound to come across a railway system that is just an adventure to itself. Dubai's train system is ready to board passengers and carry them to the other side of the land, and I do hope one day we see that in Planet of Cubes.
Dubai Chamber registers 8,830 new companies in H1 2015 Bringing total number of members to over 177,000 By Wam Published Monday, August 03, 2015 The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry has registered a substantial growth in its membership base. (Supplied) The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry has registered a substantial growth in its membership base, which the non-profit business facilitator credits to Dubai’s rising profile as a sound business destination and its attractiveness to global investors. Between January and June, a total of 8,830 new companies joined Dubai Chamber which can be attributed to a record number of 335 international delegation visits to the Chamber. This brought the total number of members to over 177,000. These numbers, according to a recent report on the Chamber’s half-year activities, strengthened the organisation’s position as one of the largest chambers of commerce in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region. Also, as part of its global expansion strategy in emerging markets of the world, Dubai Chamber opened its fourth international representative office in the city of Accra in Ghana and is preparing to open another two in Mozambique and Brazil soon, with the aim of opening new market opportunities for its members. Hamad Buamim, President and CEO, Dubai Chamber, said that when these international delegations come to Dubai, the Chamber highlights the advantages of doing business in Dubai and the attractive investment climate it offers. This is a crucial reason for the 8,800 new members in H1 2015. "This rising trend in the Emirate’s international profile as a leading centre of trade and finance and the global investors’ confidence in Dubai’s lucrative economic sectors, which are led by trade, logistics, tourism and finance, are behind the foreign companies’ desire to set up base in Dubai and expand their global business activities through the Emirate," said Buamim. President and CEO of Dubai Chamber further added that the Emirate’s various economic sectors’ excellent performance reflects on the wise vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who has launched a number of initiatives including UAE Year of Innovation, Dubai World Capital of Islamic Economy and Smart Government, which clearly show the Emirate’s commitment to create a conducive global business environment.
Here's a different angle you don't see on many of the other locations: An underwater tunnel. This reminded me of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel in Hampton Roads, Va. sans the view from the bridge.

Inside the tunnel there's not a lot to it, but it's lit so  you know where you're going.
An outside shot of the tunnel entrance.
Note: I found this city when I got to the end of the tunnel. One thing to remember is that the tunnel doesn't carry you all the way to this city. There's a ladder near the end of the tunnel you go up and then you fly the rest of the way.

Greek Mythology: The Centaur of Avatar Island

Avatar Island is proving to be a very interesting place.

For the past three days I've been touring the island and have found some interesting sights, but nothing like the picture above. The Centaur caught me completely off guard.

Now, for those who don't know what a Centaur is, I will give you the crash course in Greek Mythology: Centaurs, according to Greek mythology, were said to be the offspring of Ixion, son of Ares, and a cloud. These strange creatures had the head arms and chest of a man but the legs and lower half of a horse. These Man-Horse beasts lived in Thessaly, fed on meat and were given to riotous revelries. They came to symbolize the dark, unruly forces of nature. They were usually depicted as drunken followers of Dionysus, except for Cheiron who was the tutor to several heroes.

And now you've had your mythology course for the day. So if you're ever in that part of the Island, stop by and grab a selfie with it - as you can see, someone made sure he'd be ready to smile for the camera.

Exploring the Caves of Machu Picchu

globe life, globe and mail, globeontheweb, earth globe, globe of earth, globe earth, globe of the earth, earth globes, Afghan Families Find Refuge in Man-Made Caves A Hazara Afghan family looks on in front of their cave in the old city of Bamiyan, some 124 miles northwest of Kabul. Carved into dun-colored cliffs, hundreds of man-made caves situated next to empty niches that once sheltered giant Buddha statues destroyed by the Taliban are home to Bamiyan's poverty-stricken who have nowhere else to go.
Venturing the Caves of Machu Picchu begins in brief darkness. And for a moment you think there's nothing until you see the rocks. Most caves can be seen in the daytime and with enough light around at night.

Change may come to ice caves after fatal collapse Ice Caves after a collapse killed a woman earlier this month. A crucial phone line may be on the way. On July 6, Thomas Hoffman was the first to call 911. However, it was a 45 minute ordeal for him to make that call. “We went down the trail, stopping by every group coming up seeing if they had cellular reception,” He said. “Nobody did.” Eventually Hoffman hopped in the car and raced in search of cell reception. Before he got any bars, he came across a land line at the Verlot Ranger Station about 15 miles from the caves. It was 40 to 45 minutes after he first set out to get help. Hoffman has heard talk about perhaps shutting down the ice caves following this most recent fatal collapse. He hopes a proposed plan by the Forest Service to install a new land line about five miles from the caves at the Silverton campground will prevent them from closing. “A phone seems like a fantastic compromise if we can get it pretty close to the,” Hoffman said.
Turning around you can see from beyond the waterfall.

USA Soccer lives here

Venture far out beyond the regular borders of the Planet of Cubes and you'll find some surprises like the ones below:
USA, USA logos, planet of cubes online gameplay, planet of cubes pictures
I found this first - USA in bold red brick in the middle of the ocean. With no one around I figured why not get a shot?
USA Soccer, USA Womens Soccer, soccer fields, planet of cubes, planet of cubes gameplay, planet of cubes online
Then I saw this - a soccer field in the middle of nowhere, making me speculate that obviously these two structures are connected - you know, USA Soccer! The creation is just magnificent and lights up at night with a few torches, you know, for that late night game...or the one that goes into overtime.

Planet of Cubes Pirate Ship found

Pirates on the Planet of Cubes? - Travel between Krakatau  Volcano and Windy Bay you come across an unmarked island that holds a secret - it is home to a pirate ship.  The ship sits Dormant off the icy coast, and bears the skull and crossbones.

And yes, the sail glows at night.

Step inside you have a pretty swank, but small pad. The design of the ship makes you wish you could sail the ship out to sea. But where are the Pirates? Not sure. However, with the ship still in tact it's safe to say  there are out there.

The Ghost of Windy Bay

haunted ghosts, pictures of haunted, ghosts haunted, haunted real, haunted places, haunted houses, haunt the house, most haunted places
So there I was at the bottom of Windy Bay. It's  on area in the Planet of Cubes rarely visited, if not by accident. In this case, it was. I forgot to turn on my flight button and fell right to the bottom. And that's when I saw her. She was just standing there. No movement. No turns. Just standing there very still, as if she was waiting for something. And with the bottom of the bay being so dark and misty, it made the entire experience just...spooky. So, with that being said I began my trek towards here when she just vanished. I don't know who it was, or why she was there, but the first thing that came to mind was maybe she was a ghost... if that's possible in Planet of Cubes.

Rooftop party in Windy Bay

Hung out in Windy Bay this evening and had a few users to stop by. I asked to get a group photo and they were nice enough to take one! Big shout out to all of them for stopping by.

#ThrowbackThursday: Touring Bizarre Mountain on Planet of Cubes

In our first Throwback Thursday post in Planet of Cubes, I wanted to look back on what appears to be one of my more popular posts: Bizarre Mountain.  If you haven't been yet, you'll find some    interesting structures built along the mountains and in the valleys. And while there aren't many people who frequent Bizarre Mountain, you've got more than enough material there to create your heart away. One of the main sights I haven't seen yet are people building into the mountain, you know like in the Lord of The Rings: Planet of Cubes players - Challenge given!

Yeah, so who died?

MMORPG Deaths in Planet of Cubes
So yeah, who died? -- I ventured into the Mighty Trees area Tuesday and came across this grave. I'm not sure who this represents, but rest in peace indeed. Obviously the creator the grave had someone in mind they were reflecting on and came up with this memorial inside Planet of Cubes. What do you think? Have you ever done this? It's a different take in grieving the loss of a loved one indeed - But if gaming and real life mirror one another, what of it? Rest in peace.

Island Mysteries

Because I'm a lover of good mysteries, if you venture out onto the smaller islands in Planet of Cubes, you'll come across things like this: A Giant Girl, and random words.  What I'm beginning to discover as I travel around this world is that there were many players who designed various things and for whatever reason just left them.

It could be attrition - the fact they may have moved on to different things, or maybe they're somewhere else on the board making more statues and words. Needless to say this mystery left me looking all over, wondering what "Close" was in reference to, and if the giant girl had any relatives standing nearby.
If you're looking for places to focus all of your attention onto good sunsets and wonderful nights, consider the outer, more smaller islands. I was definitely surprised at what I found, and it made for an enjoyable gaming experience. The opportunity for adventure is indeed infinite, and who knows, maybe I'll come across your Planet of Cubes creation one day - only time will tell.

But if you do have one, leave me your coordinates in the comments below and I'll go check it out! It would be my pleasure!
