The Zoo at Avatar Island

(148: -25) : Journey South of Avatar Island and you're going to find a Zoo. Yes, a zoo. Avatar Island definitely lives up to its name as a place where you will find some creativity beyond any other place on the Planet of Cubes.

I first came across what I can only assume to be a Leopard or Cheetah, which made me venture further into this zoo area. Later I found a horse, what appeared to be a Panther, a kangaroo, a camel and finally a Pegasus, because you can't build animals without building a Pegasus (lol). And while I'm sure there were far more animals out there on the farm, I want to leave some animals for users to find on their own. However, these were my top finds of the day. There are many other creations in this area. I'm not sure if someone created it, or if the systems spawned these creatures. One thing is for sure, they're a definite attraction for the Planet of Cubes community.

Exploring the Caves of Machu Picchu

globe life, globe and mail, globeontheweb, earth globe, globe of earth, globe earth, globe of the earth, earth globes, Afghan Families Find Refuge in Man-Made Caves A Hazara Afghan family looks on in front of their cave in the old city of Bamiyan, some 124 miles northwest of Kabul. Carved into dun-colored cliffs, hundreds of man-made caves situated next to empty niches that once sheltered giant Buddha statues destroyed by the Taliban are home to Bamiyan's poverty-stricken who have nowhere else to go.
Venturing the Caves of Machu Picchu begins in brief darkness. And for a moment you think there's nothing until you see the rocks. Most caves can be seen in the daytime and with enough light around at night.

Change may come to ice caves after fatal collapse Ice Caves after a collapse killed a woman earlier this month. A crucial phone line may be on the way. On July 6, Thomas Hoffman was the first to call 911. However, it was a 45 minute ordeal for him to make that call. “We went down the trail, stopping by every group coming up seeing if they had cellular reception,” He said. “Nobody did.” Eventually Hoffman hopped in the car and raced in search of cell reception. Before he got any bars, he came across a land line at the Verlot Ranger Station about 15 miles from the caves. It was 40 to 45 minutes after he first set out to get help. Hoffman has heard talk about perhaps shutting down the ice caves following this most recent fatal collapse. He hopes a proposed plan by the Forest Service to install a new land line about five miles from the caves at the Silverton campground will prevent them from closing. “A phone seems like a fantastic compromise if we can get it pretty close to the,” Hoffman said.
Turning around you can see from beyond the waterfall.

Had to dig this hole to get out. Most of the time there are no exits in underwater caves.

USA Soccer lives here

Venture far out beyond the regular borders of the Planet of Cubes and you'll find some surprises like the ones below:
USA, USA logos, planet of cubes online gameplay, planet of cubes pictures
I found this first - USA in bold red brick in the middle of the ocean. With no one around I figured why not get a shot?
USA Soccer, USA Womens Soccer, soccer fields, planet of cubes, planet of cubes gameplay, planet of cubes online
Then I saw this - a soccer field in the middle of nowhere, making me speculate that obviously these two structures are connected - you know, USA Soccer! The creation is just magnificent and lights up at night with a few torches, you know, for that late night game...or the one that goes into overtime.

Planet of Cubes Pirate Ship found

Pirates on the Planet of Cubes? - Travel between Krakatau  Volcano and Windy Bay you come across an unmarked island that holds a secret - it is home to a pirate ship.  The ship sits Dormant off the icy coast, and bears the skull and crossbones.

And yes, the sail glows at night.

Step inside you have a pretty swank, but small pad. The design of the ship makes you wish you could sail the ship out to sea. But where are the Pirates? Not sure. However, with the ship still in tact it's safe to say  there are out there.

#ThrowbackThursday: Touring Bizarre Mountain on Planet of Cubes

In our first Throwback Thursday post in Planet of Cubes, I wanted to look back on what appears to be one of my more popular posts: Bizarre Mountain.  If you haven't been yet, you'll find some    interesting structures built along the mountains and in the valleys. And while there aren't many people who frequent Bizarre Mountain, you've got more than enough material there to create your heart away. One of the main sights I haven't seen yet are people building into the mountain, you know like in the Lord of The Rings: Planet of Cubes players - Challenge given!

Tree of Life area full of surprises

Tree of Life area on Planet of Cubes was a pleasant surprise. If you're looking for that city feel that has a rural setting, this is the area for you. I was surprised to find this windmill in the area, which was very cool. Walking around the area you could tell some user construction had started, but nothing really big, which means there's a great deal of land to be used!

Of course my biggest find of the day was this police helicopter that was perched on his pad. I hope one day I'll get a chance to fly one of these around, you can never tell what's next in POC. Awesome surprises around every corner!

And finally, back to my original mission of the night: A Group photo for this blog. I was surprised at how difficult that was- You'd think people would jump at the opportunity to get seen to gain more friends and be a little popular in Planet of Cubes, but that wasn't the case - However, big thanks to Mr. Awesome Guy for being a great sport. He was building a house when we talked. So if you see him anywhere on the planet, let him know that he's a celebrity now haha. Hopefully he'll be cool with that.

Church destroyed by user

Church fires are not cool! READ: A Rochester man is facing arson charges in connection with a fire that destroyed an historic church on West Main Street in Rochester. Thomas William Ryhal, 44, is charged with third-degree arson. More than 60 firefighters were called to Bibleway Healing Temple (the former Westminster Presbyterian Church) in the early morning hours of June 26 for the structure fire. On the scene of the fire, the battalion chief told us church fires are difficult to fight. Chief Chris Peer said, "Just large open areas, fire travels fast, consumes a lot. It gets hot and takes a lot of water to put it out." We spoke with developer Marvin Maye who was also on the scene, watching the church burn. In the past, he has struggled with preservationists who wanted him to spend $3-million dollars renovating the church instead of demolishing it to build a Dollar Store or grocery store.
(-215 : -79)--So I was trying to build a church in Comfort City when this guy shows up and just trolls the hell out of me. He didn't say nothing, he just started throwing blocks down everywhere. Next he lit the whole green area aflame with lava and TNT and zoomed off. People, if you can't respect the creations of others it only comes back to you worse than you gave it out. It was unfortunate cause like many people, I spent some time building and to see my view ruined is bad. We can almost see why you rarely see creations inside the city limits because no one wants their stuff griefed to oblivion.

Island Mysteries

Because I'm a lover of good mysteries, if you venture out onto the smaller islands in Planet of Cubes, you'll come across things like this: A Giant Girl, and random words.  What I'm beginning to discover as I travel around this world is that there were many players who designed various things and for whatever reason just left them.

It could be attrition - the fact they may have moved on to different things, or maybe they're somewhere else on the board making more statues and words. Needless to say this mystery left me looking all over, wondering what "Close" was in reference to, and if the giant girl had any relatives standing nearby.
If you're looking for places to focus all of your attention onto good sunsets and wonderful nights, consider the outer, more smaller islands. I was definitely surprised at what I found, and it made for an enjoyable gaming experience. The opportunity for adventure is indeed infinite, and who knows, maybe I'll come across your Planet of Cubes creation one day - only time will tell.

But if you do have one, leave me your coordinates in the comments below and I'll go check it out! It would be my pleasure!
