Christmas Images from Comfort City

I know for many of you seeing Christmas images during this time of year is nothing new - they splatter our Facebook pages and Instagram accounts like crazy! However I did get the chance to logon last week and check out how the Planet of Cubes was celebrating the holidays. The cool thing is I did find a few Christmas images that I think you'll love.

The one thing I did notice there wasn't a lot of creativity online, which left me with the assumption that people were actually spending time with their families instead of playing games the entire Christmas season (lol) and that's all good! That's what this time of the year is for. The first of my three Christmas images that I came across was this snowman pictured above. It was a great creation - right down to the scarf. I was impressed.

Candy Canes along with a Christmas tree on the outskirts of Comfort City

Christmas Images #2: Tree and Candy Canes - I thought these were spot on as well, even though it would have been better to have seen these with a little snow around them.  I liked the Christmas tree - very chic.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer? Possibly! Sans the left antler....
Christmas Images #3: 1-Antler Reindeer: What I can only assume is Rudolph (notice the red nose), This was the last of the holiday sights I saw in Comfort City. I didn't get a chance to venture to all the locations on Planet of Cubes, so if you saw something or created something during the Christmas season leave a message and I'll check it out! Have a great New Year everyone!

3 Skins That Would Rock The Game To Its Core

Planet of Cubes Skins, Planet of Cubes Texture Packs, Planet of Cubes Gameplay

Planet of Cubes players should know I haven't forgot about you all! Yeah, I've been gone for a while - the life of work and play will never be balanced.

Nonetheless, I've been staying in the know when it comes to the latest and greatest in the Planet of Cubes world.  If you haven't surfed over to the website recently, then you haven't noticed the vote that's going on right now about the upcoming texture packs. Sigh, no renting chunks just yet! But it's coming from what the site info explains -

Now, here are the three top choices that you've voted so far on what you want to see in the next texture pack update:

Planet of Cubes Texture Pack Votes

  1. Tron (Futuristic) Texture Pack
    33% (10 votes)
  2. Christmas Texture Pack
    30% (9 votes)
  3. Another Texture Pack which is not available on the list above!
    27% (8 votes)
It would be interesting to see a Tron texture pack. Different? Yeah, it would be. The Christmas texture pack wouldn't be a good choice because that's seasonal. And besides, Christmas is almost over! In regards to having another texture pack that's no available on the list, that's where many user will probably end up before it's all said and done.

However, I want SKIN PACKS.  I would like to see:

1. An optional pack to where you could create your own skins. Nothing special, just enough pixels to work with.

2. Naruto Skin packs - This would be AWESOME! Could you imagine the Planet of Cubes with Leaf, Cloud, and Rain Ninja running around? That would just rock.  (POC this is my version of begging you haha!)

3. Star Wars/ Star Trek Skin/texture Packs: Again, the ability to create your own Clans and Guilds would be endless if people could unite with skin textures. And besides, it's all the "in-thing" right now.

I'll be back in regular rotation talking about my travels now. I'll also be online Christmas for a few moments to say hello so look for Virgounitis! Probably in Comfort City.

Planet of Cubes update elminates Griefing

If you're one of the many Planet of Cubes players out there frustrated about the Griefing problem, stand by for the following announcement. Planet of Cubes staff has finally put in place a way to eliminate Griefers from taking over your creation. The next update will have what they call a "renting chunks" update, which means whatever you create, wherever you create it, will be protected.

And the update is apparently happening this month!

The problem with Griefing has been going on since the game's creation - while many people enjoyed playing the game, and currently enjoy playing the game, many were turned off. It's one thing to create something cool, but it's another when someone is standing by to destroy it.

According to the website, "... So no one except you (the owner of the Rented Chunk) will destroy your creations in the next game version! Imagine all your houses, flats, creations will be saved and not grieved anymore! November, 2015!  When you click on the Rent Chunk button, you will see the screen with all Chunks that are visible in your View Distance range, the status of these Chunks, compass and your position in the Planet!"

Planet of Cubes staff will have the Chunks marked by the following statuses:
  • Grey Color - Available - Chunks that you can Rent
  • Green Color - Selected - The chunks that you've just selected
  • Yellow Color - Your Chunk - The chunks that you've just Rented
  • Orange Color - Occupied - These Chunks were Rented by another players
  • Red Color - Spawn Chunk - This is Spawn area where no one can built!
So if you're a former Planet of Cubes player, or one just starting, there's no time like the present to figure out what and where you build for the Holiday season!

[ALSO READ: Griefing: 3 Ways to win without raging]
Guys in response for many requests and messages, your comments, and feedbacks to the game - we are going to add new feature - Renting Chunks to the next update! So no one except you (the owner of the Rented Chunk) will destroy your creations in the next game version! Imagine all your houses, flats, creations will be saved and not grieved anymore!
Now we would love to tell you how it'll work and share some screenshots from the development version of the game! We hope to hear feedback from you, please tell us your thoughts: do you like it or not? Maybe we should optimize it more!? Tell us! So we will have a time to add changes till the game release, that is going to come on November, 2015!
So let's start!
When you click on the Rent Chunk button, you will see the screen with all Chunks that are visible in your View Distance range, the status of these Chunks, compass and your position in the Planet!
All Chunks have status, marked by colors that's mean:
Grey Color - Available - Chunks that you can Rent
Green Color - Selected - The chunks that you've just selected
Yellow Color - Your Chunk - The chunks that you've just Rented
Orange Color - Occuped - These Chunks were Rented by another players

I haven't come across any just yet but I plan to check on this today. I'm sure there are some Halloween statues somewhere! And if you have done some be sure to leave me a message and I'll check it out!

A Planet of Cubes Police Station found

planet of cubes, games, gamers, gaming
I'm not going to lie, I did think it was cool that I walked past a manned police station in Planet of Cubes the other night while in Avatar Land. LOL, every girl online that night had to have been talking to them. It was funny. They were doing patrols and stuff, speaking to people like real cops.

I think it would be really cool when the day comes you see people working at the grocery stores and in the company buildings - that would be different.

Miles outside Comfort City you'll find this person bathing in the Sunset, and a few other people building. Life beyond the cities in Planet of Cubes is nice for scenery.

Packed crowd at Imperial City

So I'm walking around Imperial City and came across a huge crowd. Didn't try to mingle as many of them couldn't speak English, but they were wearing the new skins though, recently released in the latest update. Cool! [ALSO READ: Planet of Cubes: 2 updates we're still waiting for]

Next Planet of Cubes update might save your creation

According to a post from Planet of Cubes, an update is currently in the works to rent chunks. What does that mean?

It means the ability to destroy someone else's creations in the game could be over. While everyone is enjoying the skins updates which also came to Android recently, that update in particular is the one everyone's waiting on, and I think it'll be the determining factor in how popular that game will get when that happens. I've traveled around the Planet of Cubes and I've seen some really nice creations covered in lava blocks and missing blocks too. It's unfair, and something needs to be done about it sooner or later. Otherwise, people are just going to stop playing.

That's all I know for now!

The arenas of Dubai

Travel to Dubai in Planet of Cubes and you'll eventually  come across the arenas. Very Impressive, they represent  everything you'd find in a real life arena. Except a sky box - had to dock points for that. Overall, very nice and very realistic .

Planet of Cubes: 2 updates we're still waiting for

Planet of Cubes players have been waiting patiently for the latest upgrades: 1.6 is here, but it's still falling short on what the users are really want to see.

Customization of skins still in demand

One of the top requests made by the thousands of POC players is the ability to customize their skins.
Two of the newest skin packs
The latest update features an impressive assortment of skins to choose from, but still the ability to create your own is what the players want. The reason is simple - players want to be able to make their brand unique, their Guilds and Clans unique to the point they cannot be copied. Not to say the new Planet of Cubes Skins are bad, they're good! Customization would be great -

Players destroying other players' creations

This has to be the top complaint in the Android Marketplace. Feedback begins with how someone has built a fantastic structure only to see someone come in and destroy it just because they can. The POC Admin really need to look at what's going on when it comes to that issue or users will give up on the game. In fact, many users have already stated they will not play the game until this problem is resolved. And you cannot blame them because who wants to waste days of work only to see it destroyed?

[ALSO READ: Planet of Cubes - The latest news and rumors]

Look, I enjoy the game - It's a great break from my normal work day and it gives me a chance to do something different.  We know survival multiplayer is coming, and we know they're working on how to stop players from destroying other players' creations. In the meantime, live in the moment!

Geocaching: Find this week's Travel Bug!

This week's Geocache should be very easy to find....

Because it's on fire!

Starting Point: 199:281

That's right, the Travel Bug is on fire, and that is your clue: This Bug Is On Fire

New Users: You're looking for the following block when you log on to Planet of Cubes:

As always, when you find it, reply to this post and describe what you saw. Winner will be featured on my site!

Design Ideas: Castle Blueprint

midevil castle, midevil castles, how to make a castle on minecraft, on planet of cubes
Castle Outline

Note: Once a week I will share a different design on my site - have fun building! What you're looking at is the outline for what could be a nice castle. As the game grows, having design ideas for your Planet of Cubes creations will be important - that way you're not stuck creating the basic square houses like everyone else.

Not that there's anything wrong with that - I've seen some incredible block houses, but it's nice to have your own castle, you know what I'm saying? Of course you do. The design above gives a basic outline for a beautiful four-tower castle. The only drawback is the space inside. I would reccomend expanding the width to maybe 8-10 blocks to increase that space and from there you should be good to go!

Griefing: 3 Ways to win without raging

Griefing is the act of irritating and angering people in video games through the use of destruction, construction, or social engineering. Popularized in Minecraf

Please raise your hand if you've ever been victimized by a Griefer. Everyone should have their hands up.

Griefing is the act of chronically causing consternation to other members of an online community, or more specifically, intentionally disrupting the immersion of another player in their gameplay. It's playing in a multiplayer game, in a contrary way, with the intent of harming other human players, ruining their experience, blocking progress, frustrating, confusing and aggravating innocent players for a kind of crazy yet odd thrill.  It is indicative of a serious real-world issue, usually a deep insecurity and sense of revenge.

Like that one time you were working on a building for hours and out of nowhere you get lava blocks all over the place? Yeah, that’s someone griefing you. You’re surprised and angry all at the same time. You try to continue building, but that person won’t stop until you’ve moved on. That is the precise reason why I love sharing my experience and techniques on how to beat these players. These techniques help you avoid the frustration of being violated in this way online.  The following three techniques should help your gaming experience be an enjoyable one in the world of Sandbox games, especially on Planet of Cubes.

Confuse the “Silent Destroyers”

These are the players that don’t chat at all, they just teleport to you to see what you’re doing and commence griefing. SOLUTION: if you ever come across these types of Griefers leave your creation IMMEDIATELY.  There’s a good chance they may think you’ve moved on. However, Be sure to save your coordinates!   Come back in a few minutes once they’ve left.
Anyone who teleports to you without an invite is up to no good. They’re being nosy, and eventually plan to destroy your creations.

Build a “Dummy creation”

Create something they will assume is your main structure and watch them destroy away! Wait for them to leave and then continue with your real structure. Make sure your real creation is camouflaged in a way that doesn’t tip that person or persons off. Again, most of the time they will not speak, just destroy. While they’re doing their “damage”, you can continue building your real creation.

Find obsolete places to create

You want to build around other people in the zone, but if that doesn’t work out, find a small island or area that would suit you best.  Planet of Cubes has unlimited amounts of space on surface and underground for you to explore, so why not use it? It’s also a great way to create clubs, guilds or have an online party!

Right now there is no protocol on Planet of Cubes on how to deal with Griefers. Unlike those on Minecraft who are able to report the abuse and reserve locations so that people can’t build on them, Planet of Cubes has yet to release those types of updates. In the meantime, don’t let it discourage you from playing.  Most Sandbox games like these have at least one or two out to cause chaos, so relax and build!

Geocaching: Find This Week's Travel Bug!

You're looking for the Scarab block, seen above.
For those who've been reading the blog for a while now, you know how this goes: Login to Planet of Cubes and search for the Travel Bug. When you find it, reply to this post on what you saw and that will confirm whether or not you found this week's travel bug.

Hints:

This week it's under something.
Starting Point Coordinates are:  46: -87

Phrase to think on: "Love was built here"

What is Geocaching?

Geocaching, also referred to as GPS stash hunting, is a recreational activity in which someone "buries" something for others to try to find using a Global Positioning System ( GPS ) receiver. The pursuit can be thought of as a GPS-enabled treasure hunt. Usually, a geocache consists of a small, waterproof container that holds a logbook and inexpensive trinkets. Participants are called geocachers.

For POC Players, I simply post the coordinates and you find the Bug! Very easy! No GPS tools needed LOL!

Have fun!

What do I do when I find the Travel Bug?

Reply to this post!  I'll ask you a few questions to make sure you saw correct!

A hotel stay near Imperial City

In an adventure  outside the Imperial City I came across what appears to be a fancy hotel. Bear in mind that empty fancy hotels are usually spooky on some levels, so I didn't stay long. Like most buildings on the Planet of Cubes, they're mostly empty leaving a lot of room to create.

And every now and then you might find a woman in your room...not true lol
Caught the sunset through the window. Overall nice building !

Eastpoint Bridge is more than a journey

The Eastpoint bridge has a story to tell.  The bridge has more than paved lines, but a panorama of color and flavor like no other location on the Planet of Cubes. It's their Route 66, where the destination is not has important as the journey.

If you are wondering, yes, that's a Minion. One of the many creations you'll find on the bridge. There were so many more, well, just download the game and see for yourself! Creation time is quote lengthy out there. So if you ever get caught between the bridge at Eastpoint, stop and look around. You might find something interesting.

3 reasons to build in a cave

Caves - Nature's great infrastructure in Planet of Cubes, and yet no one builds in them. Why is that? In my journeys I've come across some very nice caves and I've always asked myself, why not build in here? Here are three reasons as to why I think this is a good idea:

1. Great for those who don't know where to start: Many of you are possibly playing Planet of Cubes for the first time and are wondering where to start. Caves give you a good starting point in learning how to build and create. Throughout the game you can find some great locations with breathtaking scenes. Hey, the Hobbits did it so why not you!

2. Awesome protection from Griefers: We all know that when you pull up the Player's list you can teleport to the location of the players. So how can you protect yourself against someone that's only coming to destroy what you've created? It's always important to design what I call "fake creations" - those things you're building just as a distraction from the real construction. Caves can provide this style of protection. So when they come, and they will, they'll think they've won, and will never know the difference. Just write down your coordinates and come back later. Once they think they've won and angered you, they'll be on their way.

3.Unlimited room space!

So the next time you come across a cave, think about it! :)

Planet of Cubes: The Latest News and Rumors!

Planet of Cubes Multiplayer is almost here -Planet of Cubes is the first true MMO block building game with one global infinite world. Ancient castles and cathedrals, lost ships and aircrafts, flying islands, cities and megalopolises, military basis, Egyptian pyramids, epic monuments and many other exciting objects and places are waiting for your exploration in this infinite Planet. The whole single and beautiful Planet made of cubes is shared among all multiplayer users online worldwide! The game has compass and current coordinates display to make navigation through the endless infinite world easier. You can also chat with all players who are visible within your current “View Distance” range. In this version of the game each change you make has its lifetime (Time To Live or TTL). When you put or remove block this change is rolled back after some period of time (TTL). The farther you are from the Spawn Zone the longer your changes will last. The average lifetime of a change is displayed at the top of the screen as the TTL indicator. You cannot build or dig inside the Spawn Zone. All cubes inside the Spawn Zone have TTL value of 0. Thus to build something make sure to leave Spawn Zone where TTL indicator is greater than 0. Make sure to select your own skin from 20+ available skins. You will have random skin assigned upon your first login to the Planet. Planet of Cubes game gives you infinite number of possibilities and endless potential for all of your creative, constructional and survival needs.
Screenshot of the upcoming Planet of Cubes Multiplayer option. (SOURCE: Planet of Cubes)
It's almost here.
According to our good friends at Planet of Cubes, Multiplayer Survival is right around the corner. In fact, they're expecting it to happen in the next set of updates. Players have been waiting eagerly to fight off the monsters and things that go bump in the night in multiplayer survival, while enjoying the adventure of building and making friends on the Planet of Cubes.

Speaking with Olga - POC Team Member

(*Special Thanks to Olga for talking with me for this post!)I got the chance to speak with Olga, one of the POC Team members and she's really excited about what's to come on Planet of Cubes. "The first version is almost done! All the details we will write later...So follow our news on this site and other social pages!", she said. Meanwhile those who are part of the Planet of Cubes Forums, pocadmin explains more (*so join the site and see! Can't give it all away lol).

Olga's favorite places? "My favorite places in Planet of Cubes are Imperial City, Comfort City, Dubai, and of course i love all other places in the Planet too!"

Where will everything fall first?

According to pocadmin's post on the forums, it looks like Apple stores will get first crack and then everyone else. There's no time frame given on when will happen, but it looks to be for the 1.6 update.

What would YOU like to see?

I myself would like to see protected locations - some system that will allow players to either rent out plots for a while. I say rent because space can fill up quick with users buying plots and then deciding later not to play. So buying plots may not be the best of options. There has to be some form of checks and balances in place (active user ratio?) to maintain a chance for everyone to have their very own spot. I also think noteblocks would be very nice. If people come to my building it would be nice to have some notes left on how to contact me offline, or when I'm online playing Planet of Cubes. I think that would create a better system of "neighborhoods" in the game where people can form Clans if not Guilds (Whatever name you like better...)

The Zoo at Avatar Island

(148: -25) : Journey South of Avatar Island and you're going to find a Zoo. Yes, a zoo. Avatar Island definitely lives up to its name as a place where you will find some creativity beyond any other place on the Planet of Cubes.

I first came across what I can only assume to be a Leopard or Cheetah, which made me venture further into this zoo area. Later I found a horse, what appeared to be a Panther, a kangaroo, a camel and finally a Pegasus, because you can't build animals without building a Pegasus (lol). And while I'm sure there were far more animals out there on the farm, I want to leave some animals for users to find on their own. However, these were my top finds of the day. There are many other creations in this area. I'm not sure if someone created it, or if the systems spawned these creatures. One thing is for sure, they're a definite attraction for the Planet of Cubes community.

Planet of Cubes locations: The tunnels of Dubai

minecraft planet of cubes online, games planet of cubes minecraft, planet of cubes
Plan a trip to Dubai and you're bound to come across a railway system that is just an adventure to itself. Dubai's train system is ready to board passengers and carry them to the other side of the land, and I do hope one day we see that in Planet of Cubes.
Dubai Chamber registers 8,830 new companies in H1 2015 Bringing total number of members to over 177,000 By Wam Published Monday, August 03, 2015 The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry has registered a substantial growth in its membership base. (Supplied) The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry has registered a substantial growth in its membership base, which the non-profit business facilitator credits to Dubai’s rising profile as a sound business destination and its attractiveness to global investors. Between January and June, a total of 8,830 new companies joined Dubai Chamber which can be attributed to a record number of 335 international delegation visits to the Chamber. This brought the total number of members to over 177,000. These numbers, according to a recent report on the Chamber’s half-year activities, strengthened the organisation’s position as one of the largest chambers of commerce in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region. Also, as part of its global expansion strategy in emerging markets of the world, Dubai Chamber opened its fourth international representative office in the city of Accra in Ghana and is preparing to open another two in Mozambique and Brazil soon, with the aim of opening new market opportunities for its members. Hamad Buamim, President and CEO, Dubai Chamber, said that when these international delegations come to Dubai, the Chamber highlights the advantages of doing business in Dubai and the attractive investment climate it offers. This is a crucial reason for the 8,800 new members in H1 2015. "This rising trend in the Emirate’s international profile as a leading centre of trade and finance and the global investors’ confidence in Dubai’s lucrative economic sectors, which are led by trade, logistics, tourism and finance, are behind the foreign companies’ desire to set up base in Dubai and expand their global business activities through the Emirate," said Buamim. President and CEO of Dubai Chamber further added that the Emirate’s various economic sectors’ excellent performance reflects on the wise vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who has launched a number of initiatives including UAE Year of Innovation, Dubai World Capital of Islamic Economy and Smart Government, which clearly show the Emirate’s commitment to create a conducive global business environment.
Here's a different angle you don't see on many of the other locations: An underwater tunnel. This reminded me of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel in Hampton Roads, Va. sans the view from the bridge.

Inside the tunnel there's not a lot to it, but it's lit so  you know where you're going.
An outside shot of the tunnel entrance.
Note: I found this city when I got to the end of the tunnel. One thing to remember is that the tunnel doesn't carry you all the way to this city. There's a ladder near the end of the tunnel you go up and then you fly the rest of the way.

Greek Mythology: The Centaur of Avatar Island

Avatar Island is proving to be a very interesting place.

For the past three days I've been touring the island and have found some interesting sights, but nothing like the picture above. The Centaur caught me completely off guard.

Now, for those who don't know what a Centaur is, I will give you the crash course in Greek Mythology: Centaurs, according to Greek mythology, were said to be the offspring of Ixion, son of Ares, and a cloud. These strange creatures had the head arms and chest of a man but the legs and lower half of a horse. These Man-Horse beasts lived in Thessaly, fed on meat and were given to riotous revelries. They came to symbolize the dark, unruly forces of nature. They were usually depicted as drunken followers of Dionysus, except for Cheiron who was the tutor to several heroes.

And now you've had your mythology course for the day. So if you're ever in that part of the Island, stop by and grab a selfie with it - as you can see, someone made sure he'd be ready to smile for the camera.
