Griefing: 3 Ways to win without raging
Please raise your hand if you've ever been victimized by a
Griefer. Everyone should have their hands up.
Griefing is the act of chronically causing consternation to
other members of an online community, or more specifically, intentionally
disrupting the immersion of another player in their gameplay. It's playing in a
multiplayer game, in a contrary way, with the intent of harming other human
players, ruining their experience, blocking progress, frustrating, confusing
and aggravating innocent players for a kind of crazy yet odd thrill. It is indicative of a serious real-world
issue, usually a deep insecurity and sense of revenge.
Like that one time you were working on a building for hours
and out of nowhere you get lava blocks all over the place? Yeah, that’s someone
griefing you. You’re surprised and angry all at the same time. You try to
continue building, but that person won’t stop until you’ve moved on. That is
the precise reason why I love sharing my experience and techniques on how to
beat these players. These techniques help you avoid the frustration of being
violated in this way online. The
following three techniques should help your gaming experience be an enjoyable
one in the world of Sandbox games, especially on Planet of Cubes.
Confuse the “Silent Destroyers”
These are the players that don’t chat at all, they just
teleport to you to see what you’re doing and commence griefing. SOLUTION: if
you ever come across these types of Griefers leave your creation
IMMEDIATELY. There’s a good chance they
may think you’ve moved on. However, Be sure to save your coordinates! Come back in a few minutes once they’ve
left.
Anyone who teleports to you without an invite is up to no good.
They’re being nosy, and eventually plan to destroy your creations.
Build a “Dummy creation”
Create something they will assume is your main structure and
watch them destroy away! Wait for them to leave and then continue with your
real structure. Make sure your real creation is camouflaged in a way that doesn’t
tip that person or persons off. Again, most of the time they will not speak,
just destroy. While they’re doing their “damage”, you can continue building
your real creation.
Find obsolete places to create
You want to build around other people in the zone, but if
that doesn’t work out, find a small island or area that would suit you best. Planet of Cubes has unlimited amounts of
space on surface and underground for you to explore, so why not use it? It’s
also a great way to create clubs, guilds or have an online party!
Right now there is no protocol on Planet of Cubes on how to
deal with Griefers. Unlike those on Minecraft who are able to report the abuse
and reserve locations so that people can’t build on them, Planet of Cubes has
yet to release those types of updates. In the meantime, don’t let it discourage
you from playing. Most Sandbox games
like these have at least one or two out to cause chaos, so relax and build!

Geocaching: Find This Week's Travel Bug!
You're looking for the Scarab block, seen above. |
Hints:
This week it's under something.
Starting Point Coordinates are: 46: -87
Phrase to think on: "Love was built here"
What is Geocaching?
Geocaching, also referred to as GPS stash hunting, is a recreational activity in which someone "buries" something for others to try to find using a Global Positioning System ( GPS ) receiver. The pursuit can be thought of as a GPS-enabled treasure hunt. Usually, a geocache consists of a small, waterproof container that holds a logbook and inexpensive trinkets. Participants are called geocachers. For POC Players, I simply post the coordinates and you find the Bug! Very easy! No GPS tools needed LOL!
Have fun!
What do I do when I find the Travel Bug?
Reply to this post! I'll ask you a few questions to make sure you saw correct!

A hotel stay near Imperial City
In an adventure outside the Imperial City I came across what appears to be a fancy hotel. Bear in mind that empty fancy hotels are usually spooky on some levels, so I didn't stay long. Like most buildings on the Planet of Cubes, they're mostly empty leaving a lot of room to create.
And every now and then you might find a woman in your room...not true lol
Caught the sunset through the window. Overall nice building !
Eastpoint Bridge is more than a journey
The Eastpoint bridge has a story to tell. The bridge has more than paved lines, but a panorama of color and flavor like no other location on the Planet of Cubes. It's their Route 66, where the destination is not has important as the journey.
If you are wondering, yes, that's a Minion. One of the many creations you'll find on the bridge. There were so many more, well, just download the game and see for yourself! Creation time is quote lengthy out there. So if you ever get caught between the bridge at Eastpoint, stop and look around. You might find something interesting.

3 reasons to build in a cave
Caves - Nature's great infrastructure in Planet of Cubes, and yet no one builds in them. Why is that? In my journeys I've come across some very nice caves and I've always asked myself, why not build in here? Here are three reasons as to why I think this is a good idea:
1. Great for those who don't know where to start: Many of you are possibly playing Planet of Cubes for the first time and are wondering where to start. Caves give you a good starting point in learning how to build and create. Throughout the game you can find some great locations with breathtaking scenes. Hey, the Hobbits did it so why not you!
2. Awesome protection from Griefers: We all know that when you pull up the Player's list you can teleport to the location of the players. So how can you protect yourself against someone that's only coming to destroy what you've created? It's always important to design what I call "fake creations" - those things you're building just as a distraction from the real construction. Caves can provide this style of protection. So when they come, and they will, they'll think they've won, and will never know the difference. Just write down your coordinates and come back later. Once they think they've won and angered you, they'll be on their way.
3.Unlimited room space!
So the next time you come across a cave, think about it! :)

Planet of Cubes: The Latest News and Rumors!
Screenshot of the upcoming Planet of Cubes Multiplayer option. (SOURCE: Planet of Cubes) |
According to our good friends at Planet of Cubes, Multiplayer Survival is right around the corner. In fact, they're expecting it to happen in the next set of updates. Players have been waiting eagerly to fight off the monsters and things that go bump in the night in multiplayer survival, while enjoying the adventure of building and making friends on the Planet of Cubes.
Speaking with Olga - POC Team Member
(*Special Thanks to Olga for talking with me for this post!)I got the chance to speak with Olga, one of the POC Team members and she's really excited about what's to come on Planet of Cubes. "The first version is almost done! All the details we will write later...So follow our news on this site and other social pages!", she said. Meanwhile those who are part of the Planet of Cubes Forums, pocadmin explains more (*so join the site and see! Can't give it all away lol).Olga's favorite places? "My favorite places in Planet of Cubes are Imperial City, Comfort City, Dubai, and of course i love all other places in the Planet too!"
Where will everything fall first?
According to pocadmin's post on the forums, it looks like Apple stores will get first crack and then everyone else. There's no time frame given on when will happen, but it looks to be for the 1.6 update. What would YOU like to see?
I myself would like to see protected locations - some system that will allow players to either rent out plots for a while. I say rent because space can fill up quick with users buying plots and then deciding later not to play. So buying plots may not be the best of options. There has to be some form of checks and balances in place (active user ratio?) to maintain a chance for everyone to have their very own spot. I also think noteblocks would be very nice. If people come to my building it would be nice to have some notes left on how to contact me offline, or when I'm online playing Planet of Cubes. I think that would create a better system of "neighborhoods" in the game where people can form Clans if not Guilds (Whatever name you like better...)Thursday, August 6, 2015

The Zoo at Avatar Island
(148: -25) : Journey South of Avatar Island and you're going to find a Zoo. Yes, a zoo. Avatar Island definitely lives up to its name as a place where you will find some creativity beyond any other place on the Planet of Cubes.
I first came across what I can only assume to be a Leopard or Cheetah, which made me venture further into this zoo area. Later I found a horse, what appeared to be a Panther, a kangaroo, a camel and finally a Pegasus, because you can't build animals without building a Pegasus (lol). And while I'm sure there were far more animals out there on the farm, I want to leave some animals for users to find on their own. However, these were my top finds of the day. There are many other creations in this area. I'm not sure if someone created it, or if the systems spawned these creatures. One thing is for sure, they're a definite attraction for the Planet of Cubes community.

Planet of Cubes locations: The tunnels of Dubai
Plan a trip to Dubai and you're bound to come across a railway system that is just an adventure to itself. Dubai's train system is ready to board passengers and carry them to the other side of the land, and I do hope one day we see that in Planet of Cubes. |
Here's a different angle you don't see on many of the other locations: An underwater tunnel. This reminded me of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel in Hampton Roads, Va. sans the view from the bridge. |
Inside the tunnel there's not a lot to it, but it's lit so you know where you're going. |
An outside shot of the tunnel entrance. |
Note: I found this city when I got to the end of the tunnel. One thing to remember is that the tunnel doesn't carry you all the way to this city. There's a ladder near the end of the tunnel you go up and then you fly the rest of the way. |
